Team Bean Tandem Skydive - 2009
What better way to spend a sunny Saturday than spending the day loitering around an airfield. Well, that's not quite the intention we had when it was suggested, as a dare, that we go throw ourselves out of a plane to raise money for charity. Yup, as a dare came this adrenalin fueled idea, courtesy of some online banter with 2 people (Kathy and Catherine) who would become half of Team Bean. Myself and Paul (the innocent parties in all this) just went along for the ride and made up the other half of, what was, Team Bean. Tongue firmly in cheek!!
After what seemed like a long wait, with hours seeming like weeks, we discovered Team Bean would be jumping as two separate groups as opposed to the single group, as planned. The feeling of disappointment was clear to see as, until this point, we had gone through the motions together. Not wanting to be put off by this temporary mishap, the first two jumpers boarded their flight. Myself and Kathy were first off, trying to hide the sheer boredom as the plane quickly left the airfield. The 20 minute flight, to altitude, lasted what seemed like years, however, the time to depart the safety of the aircraft came and it was with clenched arse cheeks, I approached the exit. Not knowing whether to be terrified or admire the view, I was quickly pushed out to deal with my fate. Within minutes, falling towards earth at 120 mph - quickly followed by Kathy. 40 seconds later and it was all over, parachute opened and a landing to be proud of.
